Frequently asked questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers.
Does Courtesy Finance offer payday loans?
No. Courtesy Finance only offers personal installment loans. Payday loans are secured against a borrower’s next paycheck and generally must be repaid within several weeks. The high cost and short time to repayment can make it very difficult for most borrowers to pay off a payday loan. Courtesy Finance’s personal installment loans are repaid in equal, affordable monthly payments.
Does Courtesy Finance offer title pawns?
No. Courtesy Finance only offers personal installment loans. Most title pawns advance money based solely on the value of the vehicle collateral and must be repaid within 15-30 days. This approach means that title pawns are generally very expensive and difficult to pay off. Courtesy Finance looks at a customer’s financial situation and finds an affordable personal installment loan that meets their unique needs.
What loan amounts does Courtesy Finance offer?
Courtesy Finance offers loan amounts from around $500 up to $20,000.
What are loan decisions based on?
Loan decisions are based on several factors including credit history, income, expenses, and availability and value of collateral. Courtesy Finance examines each customer’s situation, including their ability to repay a loan, and tries to find a loan that will meet their needs.
What items do I need to apply for a loan?
To complete a loan application, customers are required to provide several documents. These may include:
* Picture ID with signature (driver’s license, state issued ID or passport)
* Second form of ID (social security card, birth certificate)
* Address verification (most recent power bill, water bill, etc.)
* Employment and Income Documentation (Most recent paycheck, bank statement)
* Personal references with phone numbers of references
* Documents for collateral used to secure loan
Documentation requirements may vary, and a complete list will be provided during the application process.
Can I apply online?
Yes. You can apply online by clicking the ‘Apply Now’ button. An employee from a local branch will contact you to complete the loan process and answer any questions.
What is the interest rate or APR on a Courtesy Finance loan?
The interest rate and APR will vary based on the type of loan and repayment terms. Contact a local Courtesy Finance branch to discuss rates and loan options.
Does Courtesy Finance report to the credit bureau?
Yes. Courtesy Finance reports monthly to Equifax and TransUnion.
Introduction
What is Courtesy Finance?
A locally owned personal installment lender serving Georgia and Tennessee. We were founded in 2007 and offer an alternative to banks, payday lenders, and title pawn shops.
Is Courtesy Finance a bank?
No. Courtesy Finance is a state-licensed installment lender, not a depository institution.
What states and cities does Courtesy Finance serve?
Our Georgia branches are in Austell, Canton, Dalton, and Rome. Our Tennessee branches are located in Chattanooga, West Chattanooga, and Cleveland. We serve customers in a broad area around each of our branches – up to 100 miles.
What is an installment loan?
An installment loan is a common way to borrow money that provides you with an upfront lump sum of money that you can repay over time in a fixed number of equal monthly payments. These monthly payments are sometimes referred to as installments.
What is the easiest way for me to apply for a loan?
You can apply online, visit your local branch, or by calling a branch to apply over the phone.
What should I bring if I'd rather apply in person?
Bring a photo ID, a second form of ID, proof of your address, recent proof of income, and, if applicable, documentation for any collateral. Documentation requirements may vary based on your application, so it is best to discuss your application with us and verify required documentation before you visit the branch.
Can I still apply if a bank has turned me down before?
Our flexible credit criteria looks at more than just a credit score. As a result, we are able to approve many people who have been turned down at a bank.
Is there a fee to apply for a loan?
No, it is free to apply and generally only takes a few minutes to complete our application.
How do I get answers to other questions before I apply?
Our FAQ sections contain answers to many questions. You can also call or visit any of our branch locations and speak to a real person.
Personal Loan
What can I use a Courtesy Finance personal loan for?
Personal loans can be used for nearly any purpose — debt consolidation, auto purchases, home improvements, medical or emergency expenses, tuition, or planned purchases like a vacation.
Is a Courtesy Finance personal loan secured or unsecured?
Courtesy Finance personal loans are secured loans. For larger loan amounts, or depending on your credit history, a first lien on a motor vehicle title may help you qualify.
What credit score do I need to qualify?
We look at more than your credit score, including income and repayment history, so applicants with limited or past credit challenges are still considered.
Can I apply with a co-signer?
Yes, a co-signer can strengthen your application in some cases. Talk to your local branch about whether a co-signer makes sense.
How long do I have to repay my loan?
Loans typically have a term between 8 and 36 months. Larger loans may have a longer term, and the exact term is based on the loan amount and underwriting criteria.
Are there any fees for paying off my loan early?
There is no prepayment penalty if you pay your loan off early.
Will the interest rate on my loan change?
Every Courtesy Finance loan has a fixed interest rate that will not change during the term of the loan.
How fast will I receive my money after I'm approved?
If required verification documents are provided in a timely manner, loans approved by 2:00 PM can receive funds the same day.
Can I get additional money if I already have an existing loan?
Yes, we frequently help existing customers apply for additional money. Since your branch team already knows your loan history, the process is often quicker than starting from scratch. If you need additional money, you can start your application online or give your local branch a call to talk through your options.
How is a personal loan different from a credit card for something like debt consolidation?
Our personal loans have a fixed interest rate, fixed monthly payment, and will be paid off at the end of the term if you make timely payments. Credit cards typically have a variable interest rate, a payment that can change from month-to-month, and no set term. Here is a full comparison.
Why Courtesy Finance
Why choose an installment loan from Courtesy Finance over a payday loan or title pawn?
A Courtesy Finance loan gives you a fixed interest rate and a predictable monthly payment spread over a term that fits your budget — not a full balance due on your next payday, and not a short-term loan that puts your vehicle at risk of repossession within a matter of weeks.
How is Courtesy Finance different from a big bank or a fully online lender?
You work with a real person at your local branch from application through payoff — the same team every time, not a call center or a rotating loan officer.
Will I work with the same person throughout my loan, or a call center?
You’ll work with the same local branch team from your first conversation through your final payment.
What if I need to visit a different branch than where I applied?
The team at the local branch where you applied will manage you loan, but you’re not limited to the branch where you applied. Any Courtesy Finance branch in Georgia or Tennessee can take a payment, help with your loan or answer a question.
How long does it take to get approved?
Once a customer provides all required documentation, it can take as little as one hour to finalize the application and fund the loan. In most cases, applications submitted online or by phone will be approved the same day if we receive the application by 2:00 pm. Loan applications submitted outside of business hours will be processed the next business day.
What happens if I have a question or an issue after I already have my loan?
You can always call or stop by the branch that handles your loan. The same local team will work with you for the life of the loan, not just the application.
What does "looking beyond your credit score" actually mean?
It means your credit score is only one factor. We also weigh things like your income, your expenses, stability, and available collateral. This allows us to consider more applicants with limited or past credit challenges.
What happens if I have a complaint?
If you ever have a concern, start with your local branch; they can resolve most issues directly. If it’s not resolved there, you can contact our corporate office.
Is Courtesy Finance a member of any industry association?
Yes. Courtesy Finance is a member of the American Financial Services Association, the Georgia Installment Lenders Association, and the Tennessee Consumer Finance Association.
